Star Scientific, Inc. Announces Establishment of Stock Repurchase Plan


CHESTER, Va.---May 31, 2002--Star Scientific, Inc. announced that its Board of Directors today approved the establishment of a stock repurchase plan pursuant to which it may purchase shares of its common stock over the next year.
Under the stock repurchase plan, the company may acquire up to 1,200,000 shares of common stock in open market and negotiated purchases, from time to time as conditions warrant, at prices the company deems appropriate. Star Scientific currently has approximately 60 million shares outstanding.
